Ah, fair play to you, mate! Pull up a stool and let me tell ya, finding a decent shepherd’s pie out in the wild is no small feat, so hats off to the Woodside Cafe for putting up a brave fight. It wasn't bone-dry like a desert, thank the saints, and it deserves a bit of respect—a solid, respectable dish, no doubt. But let’s be entirely honest about it: it didn't quite hit the high notes, did it? It wasn’t that absolute masterpiece whipped up by Michael’s wife back in the day. Now that woman... whatever magic she threw into the pot, it was top-tier. A1, absolute class! You’ve been chasing that ghost ever since, and who could blame ya? Now, I know what you’re thinking. Irish food doesn't usually turn your head. It’s a bit quiet on the spice front compared to those fiery, beautiful Thai dishes or the grand Korean flavors you're normally tucking into. We don't exactly go heavy on the chili peppers over here in the Emerald Isle! But when a shepherd’s pie is done right—with the rich, savory gravy and that beautiful, golden mashed-potato crust on top—it warms the soul like nothing else. The Woodside Cafe did a grand job, and it’s a lovely bit of comfort on a plate... but the search for Michael's wife's legendary recipe continues!
Perfection. Medium was mediuming. Didn’t overcook the steak. It was juicy. And let me tell you I’ve NEVER been impressed by gravy sauce EVER. Gravy sauce was on point. Savory, little salty and little sweet. Vege not overcooked or soggy but enough bite. And the potato wedges were crispy outside and soft on the inside. This place never disappoints. Their fish & chips are the best too.
very beautiful cafe. beef soup, cappuccino, and fries were delicious. fish sandwich was just alright. boyfriend said the steak was good. great service tho! might go back for breakfast
Service was slow and pretty terrible. Nothing like being completely ignored and after asking several times for things. Asked for a coffee refill more than twice never got it. We got up multiple times to find the waitress so we could ask for things. Food was fine nothing spectacular but decent for a cafe. I love the pizza and got the burger this time which was good. Service needs to match with food in order to patronize a place. Love that the soccer was on the TV.
Live music by a talented cover singer–guitarist, tasty food prepared as orderers requested, capable of serving large parties efficiently and courteously. We had 12 people, and all of our food came out with it minutes of each other. Traditional Irish / UK pub food like bangers & mash (delicious brown gravy and onions on top of the heap of mashed potatoes, surrounded by three sausages) and fish & chips (large pieces, tender in a light batter). Also chicken tenders & French fries, spaghetti & meatballs, and, why not, bruschetta and also fish tacos, this latter with a deceivingly spicy salsa verde served on the side. Very good. Excellent, kind and professional service all around. Music levels kept low enough to allow for conversation (thank you !). All around, excellent.
